There
are 16 work places in the Kandy Area. These work places could be categorized
into three sections
i) Hantana
Range
ii) Villages
iii) Unorganized Urban Poor
i)
Hantana Range
This refers to the Hantana Tea Plantation. There are eight Large Divisions
in this Plantation. Satyodaya works at Factory Division, West Division,
Middle Division, Top Division, Ooragala Division, Kitulmulla Upper
Division And On Kitulmulla Lower Division.
The problems
faced by the people in these divisions are more or less the same and
they are in close geographical location. The problems identified by
the voluntary/ EPO leaders suggest that the focal problem is the poverty.
But, underneath, there are several causes identified as the ones contributing
to poverty. Hence, they were more comfortable to spotlight the contributing
factors to poverty as their main problems.

Villages
There are four Village locations targeted in this Project Proposal.
Ooragala Colony in the Hantana Range is a new settlement with out
proper basic facilities. Political and individual rivalries appear
as the main problems in this village. Organizing a strong VPO is the
main task here to be followed by the other activities to solve their
main problems. Lack of basic facilities such as Water, Sanitation
and Insufficient Income etc. are the main problems.
iii)
Unorganized Urban Poor
There are two main groups in this category. They are the Market Porters
and the Pavement Hawkers of the Kandy City. They live in different
places and are thus, geographically scattered.
Their
main problem is to have a very strong organization to deal with the
authorities such as the Police, the Municipality and the Businessmen.
