Matale Area
 


There are 11 work places in Matale Area, 08 of them are estates (both governmental and private) and the rest are villages.

Pattu acre, Thibbatukanatte, Ovala Colony and Gammaduwa village come under the category of villages. The majority of the population in these villages are cultivators or seasonal workers. Some of them work on nearby estates too.

The existing problems in the villages are as follows:

- Unemployment of youth
- Lack of health facilities
- Malnutrition
- Insufficient income
- Absence of marketing facilities for their crops

The entire area is somewhat mountainous. Villages do not have proper roads. Water supply is not satisfactory.

The existing VPO/EPO leaders and groups have been trained in the formulations of the project proposals for their respective estates/villages.
