SATYODAYA LIBRARY RESEARCH & DOCUMENTATION UNIT

The Reference Section–In English , Sinhala & Tamil Lending

Section, Research & Documentation Unit

  • The Library caters to researchers, writers, university teachers and students especially in the areas of Plantation studies, Economics, Sociology, Development, Human Rights, the National Question (Inter-Ethnic Unity) and the Theology of Liberation with separate sections for Sri Lankan and Foreign Publications.
  • Lending Section. The liberation of the poorest depends on their awareness. We work hard to improve the Young Readers’ Clubs, which already exist in our field work places. The development of this awareness will be one of our main objectives.
  • During the past years we have documented the main English, Sinhala & Tamil newspapers published in Sri Lanka. Articles of importance and interest are cut out and filed for our researchers.

The Plantation sector one is in Sri Lanka in which there were many crises and we had to pay special attention to search for the hidden reasons of those crises. The Satyodaya Research Unit has been conducting its own research project and under take the out side research projects on Plantations for this purpose.

How could this asset be developed for the future and made sustainable for the people? This is a big challenge. The reference fee is a little effort towards sustainability

REFERENCE FEE

1. The primary aim of the LRDU is the collection, indexing and dissemination of information on the socio-economic status of workers and peasants in the Plantation areas of Sri Lanka

2. The LRDU takes pride in that it is among the best organized and maintained medium-size libraries in Sri Lanka, specializing in plantation issues

3. However, with the steep rise in the purchase price of books and documents, as well as in photocopying and administration, we are now reluctantly compelled to charge a fee for reference. We trust that all users of reference facilities of the LRDU will accept this decision with understanding

Researchers Rs.1000/= (for One Year)

Students/ Undergraduates Rs .100/= (for One Year)
